1. About Bolivia
Bolivia is a beautiful country that encompasses highlands, valleys, sierra, and forests. Many cultures have adapted, generated knowledge, and thrived here, resulting in revolutionary sacred crops like the many varieties of corn, quinoa, and cañahua. According to the belief, grains are a gift from the holy sun (Inti), responsible not just for feeding cultures but also for stimulating social interaction when consumed fermented. This allowed Andean cultures to magnify the moments of joy and even use them in rites and peace offerings.
2. The Birth of ACD
After wondering how to make alcohol, we realized that Bolivia has many crops that have never been used to make spirits before. As we immersed ourselves in the dream of making whisky, we realized that we have access to every grain that the world uses to make whisky and more. We built our distillery and became the first legal craft distillery in Bolivia. We are strong believers that big companies start small, and today our essence, which we consider to be what sets our vision apart, comes from what we learned in this chapter.
3. Scaling, testing, and moving on
In this chapter, we formed a joint venture with Innobe SRL, a distillery with state-of-the-art equipment where we currently produce our products. We produced and tested a mellowed grain spirit with national distribution, using it to gain experience in the local market and to learn how other brands compete. Having this chapter as part of our background was vital to shaping our vision. We now have a clear understanding of the Bolivian whisky industry and a strategy to set us apart from the competition.
